What is Canine Hoopers?

Canine Hoopers is an exciting and low-impact dog sport that focuses on flowing courses of hoops, tunnels, and barrels. Designed to be accessible to all breeds of dogs and handlers, it provides a fun and inclusive way to build confidence, improve communication, and strengthen the bond between dog and owner. Unlike high-impact agility, Hoopers is gentle on joints, making it ideal for dogs of all ages, sizes, and abilities. It encourages teamwork, mental stimulation, and physical exercise in a supportive and enjoyable environment, ensuring that every dog and handler can take part and succeed.

I teach Hoopers 4 to 5 days a week in various locations around the North-East, offering friendly and welcoming training environments. Group classes are also run during the summer months, providing a great opportunity for dogs and handlers to develop their skills while enjoying the social side of training.

Physical Exercise

Hoopers involves navigating through hoops and tunnels, which provides excellent physical exercise for dogs. It helps in maintaining their cardiovascular health and muscle tone.

Mental Stimulation

The course layout and various obstacles in Canine Hoopers stimulate the dog’s mind. They need to strategise and problem-solve to navigate the course effectively, which is beneficial for their mental well-being.

Bonding Opportunity

Participating in Canine Hoopers strengthens the bond between the dog and their owner/handler. It involves teamwork and communication, enhancing the relationship between them.

Confidence Building

As dogs progress through the course and master new skills, they gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. This is particularly beneficial for shy or nervous dogs.

Socialisation

Canine Hoopers classes provide a structured environment for dogs to socialise with other canines and people. This helps in improving their social skills and reduces behavioural issues related to fear or aggression.

For all ages & abilities

Canine Hoopers can be adapted to suit dogs of all ages and abilities. All dogs are welcome at training sessions, however, we recommend they should be over the age of 8 months before attempting courses due to growth plate development.
